
Ancient Bead Show and Sale
Johnson has been collecting beads since the 1980's and has become an expert in the field of beads and their history. His collection of beads includes ones dating back over 7,000 years, and he is willing to share his knowledge and collection with us for a limited engagement. Some of these unusual and unique beads will also be for sale. We have started a tradition of bonding, beading, fun and pampering as a way to celebrate Mother's Day at Mountain Beadworks. Bring your grandmother, mother, aunt, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin or great friend and join us for a truly memorable day. We will be teaching our most popular class, Crochet with Wire and Beads. Even if you have never crocheted before, you will find this project delightfully easy, and you will create a necklace that you will proudly wear, while learning a fun new beading technique, and creating new memories. Additionally you will be pampered with a fabulous catered luncheon, complete with fine china, flowers and gifts. They will be bringing with them beautiful glass tiles, cabochons that can be worn as is, or used with one of your favorite techniques to cage your new treasure. These are great pieces for you to do wire wrap,stitching to create a bezel, or simple gluing it to a bracelet form. The pendants come in 3 sizes and 6 unique shapes. Cabochon Creativity MBW Instructor: Patty Strong Do you have flat-back stones (cabochons) that don’t have a hole? Want to do something creative with it without the risk of drilling a hole? Learn to capture the cabochon with seed beads, using the peyote stitch, to create a beautiful bezel that will set off your beautiful stone. The area surrounding it can be enhanced with additional beads and techniques, thereby making it a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Fee: $30, includes lunch. But you will see that it is quite fast and easy to make. Love Swarovski crystals? Well, this project uses beautiful crystal buttons that are woven together to make a real "AHH" statement. You will use 2 different sizes of bicone crystals, plus delicas, to create a sensational wrist adornment that everyone will want to copy. It is truly a luscious design. Because the crochet stitch is done in the round, a clasp is not needed. Simply roll the bracelet over your wrist. The foundation of the stitch is Conso, or upholstery thread, which is used for amazing durability and strength, as well as ease to do the crocheting. Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is a clay-like substance that combines very tiny particles of pure silver, with water and an organic binder. It can be molded, stamped, carved, etched, and a variety of materials can be added to it (glass, stones, etc.) After it is fired in a kiln, the result is a piece of 0.999 fine silver. In this class you will complete several pieces of fine silver jewelry using PMC. Fee: $85/person includes 18 grams of silver clay and the use of all tools and the kiln. Lunch is also included.
